Project: Nesting in the Nursery - Walls

I'm 22 weeks along and feeling well enough to start nesting.  Actually, I finally feel like getting things done in general.  I love to paint walls - probably because it's the only domestic skill I come by naturally.  Unfortunately, I'm not supposed to inhale the fumes while pregnant so I had to outsource this task.  So, after a little inspiration from Pinterest, this is what the nursery looks like so far!

Awesome, right?!!  Of course, I could never do anything as cool as this mural on my own.  My cousin was out for a visit and set up this mural for our little boy!  For anyone who may live in South Florida and would be interested in having her paint you a mural, here is a link to her art website: http://katiemeyer.wix.com/art

Project: Contain the Kitchen Clutter - First step & a place for the dog's stuff

One of my biggest stresses in life is that our house isn't exactly "organized".  Now that we've just approached our year anniversary in this house, I'd love to say that we're settled in...but that's not even close to being true!  Don't get me wrong, I've had A LOT of fun this year.  Perhaps so much fun that I haven't gotten around to most of my projects.

The backstory: Here's how I justify being behind on things - I wasn't really there when we moved in!  I packed all of my boxes with care and labeled them with the contents and the rooms that they should go in.  My husband threw a bunch of stuff in random boxes and garbage bags.  Then our closing date got pushed, and got pushed, and got pushed...  We were lucky enough to extend our lease by the day, but had to get out ASAP on our closing date.  This date was also the day of a weekend family trip to the Grand Canyon for my mom's birthday.  We worked super hard to get everything out of our old place and unloaded into the house, but at 4pm I had to leave for a long drive northbound.  Nice guy that my husband is, he stayed at the house to get settled in.  The problem: we have completely different definitions of what "settling in" is!

In order to be organized I need to unpack slowly and meticulously, finding the perfect place for everything so I know I'll be able to find it in a hurry.  Mark hates boxes and thinks they are "messy".  You may be able to guess what happened.  All of my perfectly labeled boxes were gone when I got home on Sunday, with all the contents shoved in the most random of places.  He is proud that he got everything put away.  I'm more overwhelmed than ever to tackle the project of getting settled in.

I've made some strides in the year to try to get things together and make things comfortable, but the effort has been pretty pitiful.  My closet is almost as organized as it can be and our bedroom is in pretty good shape.  That's it.

So here goes.  I'm going to tackle the kitchen.  I'm starting with the pantry - 1/4th of which was a mess of dog stuff.  This fix was so simple that I can't believe I hadn't done it a long time ago.  We even had a cabinet made for this sort of thing!  I went to Walmart & Target, bought two small garbage cans and a storage bin and voila!

A place for all the "poop" bags we save from the grocery store and an easy way to scoop her food.  Before we had a giant bag of food taking up a whole shelf that you'd have to scoop at an awkward angle while it spilled everywhere.

Then I added a cute bin for all the treats, leash, ear fungus medicine, bones, heartworm pills, etc with a lot of extra shelf space to now devote to storing other things!

Eventually I'll make progress on the rest of the pantry...then the kitchen...
